She also has the authority to prescribe medications with a midwifery formulary within Victoria.
I have a passion within my midwifery about the types of care that are available to woman. In the country areas I felt woman had very limited women centred choices of care. The care, support and education a woman receives during her pregnancy is of utmost importance for the woman and babies well being. Having a trusted relationship with the same midwife has been researched revealing that woman have better informed outcomes.

So proud of my lil sister and how much you have achieved. Love you lots.
Barbara is a very welcoming and knowledgeable midwife. Her enthusiasm for what she does comes through in every contact. She is available to answer and question I have, no matter how silly I think the question is. She is a joy to work with.
I find it very useful having a qualified specialist just a phone call away when I have a question, while enjoying my pregnancy but not enjoying the morning sickness and tiredness I can rely on Barb to organise my appointment and make sure everything runs smoothly without stressing myself.
Approaching my second birth I was very apprehensive after a traumatic experience with my first child. From the first time I met Barbie I was impressed with how she listened to me and was supportive of my ideas for how I would like the birth of my second child to be. The continuity of care right through the pregnancy meant that I could approach the labour with much more optimism to achieve the best possible birth for me. During labour Barbie was outstanding in coaching me through the painful contractions, guiding us through the birth, as well as supporting my husband with ways he could help me. I managed to give birth to a beautiful girl without intervention and pain-management drugs which I don't think I would have achieved without Barbie's help.
When Kylie first said that she was going to use a private midwife I was sceptical, in my experience as the male in the birthing suite you feel useless as you watch your wife/partner endure so much pain and there is nothing you can do about it, so I thought what is another midwife going to do.
However, when I met Barbie it was clear that she was going to be there for Kylie. The biggest plus was the confidence Barbie gave Kylie that everything would be as Kylie wished (minimal Intervention). This made Kylie a lot less anxious and stressed going into the ordeal (yes once the baby is on the way it is an ordeal until the bundle of joy arrives).
Whilst Babies's priority was Kylie she also made sure that I was comfortable with how everything was going and ensured that I had something to occupy me/help Kylie.
Barbie was a godsend, taking control ensuring that our wishes were respected, coaching and supporting Kylie throughout the pregnancy and birth, and her availability including the early callout to hospital and travelling out of town for our post birth appointments.
I could not praise Barbie's service and care enough, and truly believe that she contributed in no small way to Kylie's problem free birth and ultimately the fact she seems to be recovering exceptionally well.
Honoured to have Albury Wodonga Midwifery Services first baby! Barbie is truly one in a million and offers above and beyond the best care you could hope for when expecting! The support she offers once you get home with your little munchkin is second to none and I could not speak highly enough of her! I strongly recommend using this service.
